Flexural testing

Flexural testing is a mechanical testing method for evaluating the behaviour of a material when subject to bending forces. A three-point flexure test is the most common type of flexural testing. In this test a sample is supported on its two outer edges and a load is applied to the centre point of the sample which causes the sample to bend. Flexural testing is primarily conducted to determine the flexural modulus and flexural strength of a material. Engineers use this data to determine the ability of materials to withstand specific loads and deformations which is crucial for designing and analysing all kinds of structures. Luma laboratories conduct tensile testing in accordance with BS EN ISO 178:2018.
